Character description

What is the hyphen symbol?

The hyphen is not a punctuation mark. It is always part of the word; Therefore, it refers to spelling. The word hyphen comes from the Latin divisio — division. There are several hyphens in Unicode. The minus is different in length and height in the string (at least it should, however, the font decides everything). Non-breaking hyphen — does not allow anyone to break the line in this place.

Another hyphen:

Hyphen Bullet, Small Hyphen-Minus, Fullwidth Hyphen-Minus

Hyphen was approved as part of Unicode 1.1 in 1993.

Text is also available in the following languages: Русский;
