A lowercase lambda is widely used in scientific notation. Lambda denotes the wavelength, the decay constant, the specific heat of melting, the charge density, and many other variables. λ-probe — a sensor of residual oxygen in exhaust gases. λ-phage is the name of one of the bacteriophages.
