Easter Catholic

Easter is a moveable holiday celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It's considered one of the most important religious holidays.

The roots of Easter date far back into history. For a long time Jews have been celebrating Pesach (or Passover) — a holiday commemorating the liberation from slavery in Egypt. Apparetly, that's where the name of Easter comes from.

The celebration of Pesach took place on the 14th day of the first full moon in spring and was always accompanied with feasts. The Resurrection was scheduled two days later. That's one point.

Digging deeper, we'll see that ancient people had a tradition of performing rituals connected with agriculture and land cultivation. It symbolized the fertility that comes with spring. Days become longer, thus light wins over darkness. It's probably in Homo Sapiens' genes to greet the beginning of spring with dancing, music, thanking God and so on. Let it be a short explanation for how Easter appeared. 🐣

As it was mentioned before, Easter is a moveable holiday, which means that its date is different each year.

In a nutshell, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after (never on) the Paschal full moon. The Paschal full moon is the first full moon occurring on or after the spring equinox. You can never rely on the sky, as the timing of natural phenomena often fluctuates. Instead, consulting the Gregorian calendar, we see that it's scheduled for March 21 (approximately). Fortunately, Easter always falls between March 22 and April 25. In 2022 it's going to be April 17.

Easter keeps a lot of traditions passing from generation to generation. We've graciously enlisted some of the most important activities that you should try:
